Sara LaRosa was born and raised in beautiful Sussex County, New Jersey. She has always been pulled toward art and creating, and knew that she had real passion in these areas. Throughout high school, Sara immersed herself in a wide variety of art classes. She explored drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and metalworking. She took a strong interest in photography, and was even recognized by the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council for her work.
She planned to attend the New England Institute of Art in Boston, Massachusetts, for their Bachelor’s program in Photography. After her first semester in the program, she realized that she was in the wrong place. The school was lacking something (a darkroom, for one), and it just didn't seem right. Sara transferred to the Community College of Rhode Island to find her path. Since she had some exposure to clay in high school, Sara decided to take a Ceramics class her first semester at CCRI. She fell in love with the studio and the people surrounding it; she found her passion in clay.
Sara graduated in May 2011 with an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts. After graduation, Sara spent some time working back in New Jersey. In November 2011, Sara packed up her things and began a drive across the country, to experience life on the West Coast. She enjoyed life in Salt Lake City, Utah for two years, and Northern California for another year.
Enjoying life in the "real world" is all fine and dandy, but working in retail is not what Sara had in mind for herself. She once again packed up her life and moved from California to Flagstaff, Arizona, where she enrolled as a student at Northern Arizona University. She completed her BFA in Studio Art, with a Ceramics emphasis, in December 2017. During her time as an undergrad, Sara experimented with not only clay, but also sculpture - from welding to forgery, and printmaking - intaglio, screen printing, and bookmaking.
Very shortly after graduating, Sara became pregnant and gave birth to an amazing little girl. She has spent the past few years navigating life as a parent, and has slowed down in ceramic production. She is currently exploring two-dimensional art, and is looking forward to intertwining her 2-D design work into her ceramics down the road. She is a current member at Flagstaff's artist's maker space, CoCo-Op, where she has begun to get her hands dirty again in their ceramics studio.
Sara considers herself a multi-disciplinary artist, and truly enjoys working with a variety of mediums. Her works - ceramic, photographic, sculptural, and two-dimensional - have been on display at a small number of art shows and galleries. She hopes to lengthen her list of exposure in her following years as an artist.
